Registered Nurse Practitioners (RNP) are registered nurses who have acquired the formal education, extended knowledge base and clinical skills to practice in an advanced role as a direct health care provider. Nurse Practitioners are authorized to practice by the Arizona State Board of Nursing in a specialty area via their registered nurse licensure and advanced practice certification in a specialty area and other additional skills for which they have been prepared through post-graduate education and training in accordance with R4-19-508 C. The RNP may provide health care services within their specialty area to individuals, families and groups, including but not limited to admission, management of care, discharge and follow up, in ambulatory, acute, long term and other health care settings. The RNP serves as a leader and role model for professional development of peers and others. The RNP will work collaboratively with other health care professionals when appropriate.
Current Arizona RNP licenseRNP Graduate Degree from a master's program in nursing with a concentration in an advanced race registered nursing category and specialty under R4-14-501Current Specialty area national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies, the American Board of Nursing Specializes or an equivalent organization as determined by the Arizona Board of NursingProficient computer skillsExcellent customer service and communication skillsMinimum of 3 years as a RNP in the specialty preferredACLS/BLS certificationsOncology experience preferredKnowledge of professional nursing theory, standard nursing protocol and the legal implications of nursing practice, including statutes and regulations relevant to advanced practice nursing.Expert skill in diagnosis and treatment of individuals.Proficient skill in the application of nursing techniques, procedures and instruments according to recognized policies.Proficient skill in interviewing and counseling patientsHigh level of skill in utilizing appropriate oral and written communication with patients, physicians, nurses, staff and community members.Considerable ability to exercise independent judgment.Able to identify the scope of practice permitted by state and federal laws and regulations and professional practice standards.Able to provide leadership role model.Able to work cooperatively with other professional and paraprofessional staff members. Assesses clients, synthesizing and analyzing data and understanding and applying principles of health care at an advanced levelManages the physical and psychosocial health status of patientsAnalyzes multiple sources of data, identifies alternative possibilities as the nurture of a health care problems and selects, implements, and evaluates appropriate treatmentMakes independent decisions in solving complex client care problemsDiagnoses, performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, prescribes, administers and dispenses therapeutic measures, including legend drugs, medical devices and controlled substances with the scope of RNP.Recognizes the limits of RNP's knowledge and experience, planning for situations beyond their knowledge and expertise and consults with or refers clients to other health care providers when appropriate.
