Jobing Description

Description:The Perioperative Technician provides technical and administrative support in the endoscopy and anesthesia areas as well as maintaining an appropriate level of supplies for the peri-operative department. Assists endoscopy patients by providing support to the physician and RN under direct supervision. Responsible for cleansing, preparing and processing of Endoscopy and anesthesia equipment pre and post use according to hospital, OSHA and AORN, AST standards. Performs standard system checks prior to any surgical case and contacts the Bio-med department when system issues arise. The Perioperative Technician is responsible ordering necessary equipment, auditing and maintaining PAR levels of supplies required in the peri-operative area.

High school diploma

Certified Nurse Assistant

Current BLS certification

Experience in Endoscopy, surgery and Sterile processing/materials management preferred

Maintains competencies and certifications

Experience with anesthesia machines

Experience with ordering materials and communicating with vendors

Excellent communication and customer service skills

Active participation in related continuing education programs, (needs a minimum of 12 continuing education credits per year related to endoscopy).

Understands and demonstrates respect for patient rights and utilizes established mechanisms for management of ethical issues in patient care.

Acts as a consultant to the healthcare profession, patient or caregiver regarding patient advocacy and delivery of safe, competent, and quality perioperative care.

Follows hospital based policy regarding equipment maintenance and infection control measures. Identifies emergency situations and independently initiates appropriate actions.
